Holbaek (DKHBK)

A well sheltered harbour for general cargo and fishing vessels. Grain is the main export; imports include coal, timber, feed stuffs and nitrates. The port is currently closed to commercial traffic. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen.

Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less in length. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Holbaek is located at the S end of Isefjord, approx 30nm W of Copenhagen.

LOA 110m; draught 6.4m.

Approximately 60 vessels visit the port annually.

Small vessels can anchor in the fjord with good holding ground, the best berth being clear of the dredged channel N of Holbaek Havn, depth 4.5m. The bottom is mud in the deeper areas and the shallower water at the head of the fjord is covered with thick weed.

Holbaek is approached through the fjord by a channel, length 1.75nm, width 30m and dredged to a depth of 6.4m. The channel is marked by spar buoys and is entered from seaward approx 0.5nm within the entrance to Holbaek Fjord. A lightbuoy is moored in Inderbredning, 0.3nm ESE of Tornehage, on the N side of the entrance to the fjord and close N of the line of Holbaek Leading Lights. An outfall pipe extends 350m SSE from a position 0.75nm WSW of Tornehage. The directions are as follows: From a position S of the lightbuoy ESE of Tornehage, vessels should steer WSW bringing Ore Leading Lights into line astern bearing 061.5°, these consist of lattice masts with red and white triangular daymarks, situated at the S end of the island. Ahead, Holbaek Leading Lights situated W of the harbour in line bearing 241.5° lead through the dredged channel. They are exhibited from orange framework towers, the front on the W mole of Trafikhavn and the rear 500m WSW. On passing S of Ronnen, vessels should alter course SW towards the harbour onto the line of Holbaek Havn Leading Lights bearing 224.25°. The front light is exhibited from a white triangular daymark with red stripes above the gable of a warehouse near the W end of Trafikhavn, the rear with a similar daymark on a framework tower 108m SW.

Pilotage is not compulsory but is recommended for vessels of 500GT and over, vessels with a draught 5.0m and over take a pilot. Pilotage is available from Sound Pilotage Authority, VHF Ch 13.

Range 0.1-0.2m. Tidal streams in the fjord are weak; the incoming stream flows along the N side of the fjord and; the outgoing streams along the S side. Storms from W through N to NE can raise water level by up to 1.5m; storms from E through S to SW can lower it by 1.2m.
