Jiangmen (CNJMN)

There are 3 operational areas and 2 passenger transport areas operated by the Harbour Administration Bureau. The Gaosha operational area and the Beijie passenger transport area are located at Beijie Gaosha on the right bank of the lower reaches of the main stream of the Xijiang River and on the coast the Beijie Haibang respectively. The Zhupaitou, Jiangzui operational areas and the inner harbour passenger transport area are located on the right bank of the upper, middle and lower reaches of the Jiangmen Fairway, the central city section respectively. The main cargoes handled in the port are containers, coal, non-metallic ore, chemical fertiliser and agricultural chemicals.

Jiangmen is located in SW of Guangdong Province, on the western bank of the central part of the Pearl River Delta.

LOA 114.8m, beam 18.3m, draught 6m, 7,900DWT.

Approx 94,000,000t of cargo and 820,000TEU handled annually.

There are 21 anchorages in the port for operation, berthing and shelter.

There are 3 channels leading to the port. The Xijiang River Fairway on the lower reaches: Bounded by Zhoujun and Haiequan Valley with an overall distance of 28km. The main channel width is 50m, depth 2.5m. The channel can accept barges up to 1,000DWT. A lightbuoy is located on the Caoxiezhou Rock in the Tianhe River. The Hutiaomen Fairway: Bounded by the Xijiang River Fairway on the lower reaches and the Hutiaomen with an overall distance of 45km. The main channel has a width of 50m and a depth of 2.5m, the min bend is 300m radius. Navigational marks consist of Grade 'A' buoys on the channel, shoreline buoys on the Seven Sisters Rock, a tower stake on the right side of Hushi Rock and a red buoy on the side of Guancai Rock. The Jiangmen Fairway: Bounded by the entrance of Beijie ship lock extending through the central city to the confluence of Xionghai entrance, the Tanjiang River and the Yamen Fairway (Yinzhou Lake) with an overall distance of 25km. The fairway is narrow and winding, unable to accept large ships. A lightbuoy is located on Futoushan Rock.

The port area of Jiangmen is bounded by the following: ..... 1. Chaoliantou on the lower reaches of the Xijiang River extending SE'ly along the main stream of the Xijiang River to the Xinshazaiwei, an overall distance of 12km. 2. Beijie ship lock extending SW'ly along the Jiangmen Fairway to Jiangju coal yard, an overall distance of 8.2km. 3. Beiyangtou at Wenchangsha on the Jiangmen river extending along the Lile River to the Jiangmen paper factory, an overall distance of 2.1km.

The port is subject to irregular semi-diurnal tide. The annual average peak level is 3.3m and the average lowest is -0.5m.

Wind: The annual average wind speed is 4.6kts. Typhoons occur between Jun and Oct at wind force over 9 which lasts for approx 2 days. Whirlwinds occur at force 10. Typhoons of more than force 10 occur twice each year on average which affect port operations for 1-2 days. Rainfall: The average annual rainfall is 1,768mm, mainly between Apr and Sep. The number of days on which rainfall is more than 25mm is 25 days. Port operations are not affected. Mist: Fog occurs annually on average for 9 days, mainly between Feb and Apr. Navigation of vessels and port operations are not affected. Temperature: The average temperature is 22°C.
