Khor Fakkan (AEKLF)

Khor Fakkan is a natural deep water harbour developed to handled large container vessels. Some general cargo, chemical products, oil, project materials and services for offshore installations are also dealt with.

Khor Fakkan (Khawr Fakkan) is situated outside the Strait of Hormuz, on the E coast of the United Arab Emirates, to the N of Fujairah.

LOA 400m, Beam 59m, 202,684 DWT.

Approx. 2,000,000TEUs handled annually.

Sharjah Port Authority have also advised that anchoring adjacent to Khor Fakkan territorial waters, between longitudes 056°36'E and 056°49.25'E, is strictly prohibited. Vessels intending to anchor off Khor Fakkan Port should contact the Port Control on VHF Ch 67/16 and be guided by the port authorities to anchor within 12nm (up to Longitude 056°36'E). Restrictions are implemented due to safety, security and environmental issues. The 12 to 24nm area is between the following co-ordinates: 25°20'N 056°36'E 25°24.75'N 056°36'E 25°24.75'N 056°49.25'E 25°20'N 056°49.25'E Free passing of vessels through the above area is allowed as per International Maritime Law.

Compulsory for all vessels over 150NT or 50m in length, pilots board in position 25°23.3'N 25°22.7'E, 0.5nm seaward of the Fairway Lightbuoy. Pilots are available throughout 24 hours.

The light at the end of the breakwater is 10.0m high and can be seen from a distance of 10.0nm. (Fl(2)W.10s). A prominent radio tower (framework structure) stands close S of the container terminal, the gantry cranes can also be clearly seen. A ruined tower, stands at an elevation of 82m on rising ground 0.35nm S of the town; another ruined tower stands on the cliff point adjoining the port area, 0.3nm E of the town. The Oceanic Hotel, stands on the foreshore 0.35nm NNE of Jabal Sidr; at night it is illuminated.

Neaps 1.3m; springs 2.5m. Range up to 3.0m tidal variation.

There are 3 tugs of 3,500hp, 2,700hp and 2,400hp, each fitted with fire fighting equipment and VHF communications.

Prevailing winds: E/SE'ly. Squalls of up to 30kts on rare occasions.

Vessels should advise their agents , Port Control (for the attention of the Harbour Master) and the Port Operator, of their ETA 72, 48, and 24 hours prior to arrival stating the actual draught, LOA and cargo details. Vessels approaching the port should call Port Control on VHF Ch 67, or 16 when 10nm, 5nm, 2nm and 0.5nm off the fairway buoy. All vessels on arrival should contact Port Control and provide the following information: ..... 1. Vessel's name 2. Date and time of arrival 3. Anchor position 4. Flag 5. Local agent 6. GT and NT 7. Last Port of Call 8. Next Port of Call 9. Purpose of anchorage On departure, vessels should contact Port Control and provide date and time of departure, with name of next port of call.

Procedures for Khor Fakkan Anchorage for vessels prior to their arrival at Khor Fakkan/Kalba Anchorage. ..... 1. A fax should be sent to the Port of Khor Fakkan (Fax: +971 9 237 1555) stating all vessel particulars and the purpose of the call. 2. All Masters must contact Khor Fakkan Port Control on VHF Ch 16, 67 or by telephone (+971 9 238 5027) or SSB Radio on frequency 2182 to obtain permission prior to anchoring. 3. All Masters must contact Port Control after anchoring and at time of sailing. 4. All vessels off Khor Fakkan shall be issued with an anchorage identification number, which will be co-ordinated with the coastguard on demand. Bunkering is permitted at Khor Fakkan Anchorage, however, ship to ship cargo transfer permission should be obtained from Harbour Master prior to operation. (STS cargo operations are not permitted outside port limits in order to protect the environment from pollution).
