The port mainly handles liquid cargo.

Arabian Sea Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Sep 1 to May 31, Summer Jun 1 to Aug 31.

Situated on the southern coast of Yemen, 11nm N of Ra's Fartak.

LOA 110.06m, draught 5.0m, beam 17.5m, 6,969DWT

Approx 25,000t of cargo handled annually.

Vessels waiting to berth anchor 0.4-0.5nm SE of the breakwater light clear of the harbour entrance.

BA 3784. Admiralty Pilot NP64, NP286(8).

Coastguard services are provided by security in the harbour.

Compulsory, for vessels over 200GT. Pilots are available during daylight hours only. Pilots may be contacted on VHF and a suitable embarkation position established.

The port limits are 3nm S of the SE breakwater.

Nishtun port light, Fl 9s 18m, is located in a position 0.1nm E of the root of the SE breakwater. A light Fl R 3s, marks the SW end of the SE breakwater.

Cargo may be handled throughout the year, inside the harbour, but may be affected by weather during the SW monsoon. Berthing during daylight hours only.

Mean maximum range 1.3m; mean minimum range 0.4m.

There are no tugs available.

Prevailing winds: Oct-Apr, NE'ly, May-Sep, SW'ly.

VHF: Pilots can communicate with the port authorities on Ch 16, 0700-1400hrs.

Officials board vessels calling at the port on arrival and departure.

Vessels are to have valid statutory certificates onboard. Crew List and Crew Declaration are required.

Notify ETA 24 hours prior to arrival. Message should include the following: ..... 1. Masters name 2. Vessel nationality 3. Callsign 4. GT 5. DWT 6. Max draught 7. Type of cargo 8. Reason for call 9. Dangerous cargo onboard

Vessels are required to fly their national flag, signal letters and courtesy ensign.

Are provided to the master, by the pilot and vessel's agent, when entering the port.

Healthy cargo vessels are granted pratique, by the pilot, when entering.

Normal procedure observed at other ports and in accordance with the Charter Party.
