Camranh (VNCRB)

The private port has road and rail links with Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City. The principal imports are asphalt and cement. Exports are agriculture products, sand and salt.

Cam Ranh Port also known as Ba Ngoi is located 25nm S of Nha Trang in Cam Ranh Bay.

LOA 199.96m, beam 32.26m, draught 11.6m, 53,565DWT.

Approx 1,440,000t of cargo and 365 vessels handled annually.

Various anchorage areas are established on either side of Grande Passe, in Binh Ba Bay, and W, NW and N of Mui Sopt in Cam Ranh Bay, and are allocated by the Harbour Master depending on draught. Depth in anchorage area is 11.0-20.0m. ..... Anchorage area No 1: The water area within the radius of 0.7nm, 11°52.0'N 109° 09.3'E Anchorage area No 2: The water area within the radius of 0.3nm, 11°53.3' 109° 08.1'E.

The port is entered from the SE via Grande Passe and Le Goulet. Le Goulet has depths of 22.0m in the fairway and within Vinh Cam Rahn there are depths of 9.0m to 18.0m. Caution: A dangerous wreck (2.5nm NE from Hon Chut Light) lies at the seaward end of Grande Passe close NE of a shallow patch, depth 13.7m. The main channel from the pilot station off Mui Ba Tien has a length of 8.6nm and depth of 10.2m, there are leading lights and light beacons in the N part of Cam Rahn Bay.

Pilotage is compulsory and pilot boards in position 11°48.5'N 109°12.5'E. The distance between the pilot station and the berth is 9nm.

Range approx 1.5m. At springs the flow inside the bay and at the entrance is less then 1kt.

Two tugs are available, 1x 960hp and 1,500hp. Vessel's lines to be used.

Average temperature 26°C. The rainy season is between September and December, the dry season between January and August. Wind is generally NE'ly between October and April, and SW'ly between April and October. Wind speed is 4-6kts with a max of 10kts.

Customs: Officers and crew have to declare their personal effects to Customs as required. This includes foreign exchange, accompanied baggage and goods. The Customs allowance for officers and crew are a max of 1.5 litres of alcohol, a max of 400 cigarettes, 50-100 cigars, a max of 100gm of tobacco. Penalties for non-compliance are based upon individual circumstances. The bonded store will be sealed while a vessel stays in port. A release of bonded goods may be permitted at any time subject to customs approval and presence onboard. Crew/passengers are not allowed to sell or change their personal effects, which are already declared to Customs, with local people. It is strictly prohibited to supply any bonded goods to shore personnel. The following are prohibited from import/export: Weapons, explosives, drugs, antiques, documents relating to national security, cultural articles which may cause harm to Vietnamese morality.

Initial ETA should be sent to the vessel's appointed agent on departure from last port. This message will be passed to the Harbour Master by the agent. Additional ETA's should be sent each 48 hours after departure from the last port and then 72, 36, 24, 12, 6 and 4 hours prior to arrival. The ETA message should contain: ..... 1. Vietnam regulations require vessels entering a Vietnamese port to display the Vietnamese flag. If the vessel does not possess a Vietnamese flag, the Master can request the local agent to supply it on arrival at the pilot station. Penalty for non-compliance is approx US$100-200.

The main/emergency radio transmitter and direction finder will be sealed when the vessel is in port. No direct communications are therefore possible so all messages must be routed through the vessel's agent.

Pratique cannot be applied for by radio. It is normally applied for after the Quarantine delegation has viewed all the vessel's documents related to health (such as Health Declaration, Vaccination books, Ship Sanitation Control Certificate) and then granted.Ship Sanitation Control and Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificates may be renewed.

The NOR should be tendered when the vessel arrives at the pilot station.
