Port Jefferson (USPTJ)

The port consists of a small ferry terminal to Bridgeport, CT and two tanker terminals.

Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Seasonal Area for ships of 100m or less in length, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Port Jefferson is located on the N shore of Long Island, New York State.

Max LOA 213.3m, beam 32.30m, draught 10.68m and 779DWT.

Approx. 1,800,000t of cargo handled annually.

A small area in the NE part of the harbour, E of No 5 Lightbuoy, with depths of 4.0-5.5m, affords excellent anchorage during N winds, caution is necessary as there are shoal patches at the side of this area. Anchorage is available N of Mount Misery shoal in depths of 25.0-30.0m.

A dredged channel with a mid channel depth of 8.2m, leads through the entrance to the head of the harbour, 1.5nm SE,LW draught is shoals with little depth lie on either side of the channel in the entrance and for 0.5nm within. The harbour has general depths of from 5.2-10.4m over a large part. For vessels to the Tanker Berth, the LW draught is 10.66m, however, vessels must enter through a channel with only 7.9m depth. The channel is entered between No 2 Lightbuoy (Fl R 2 5s bell) moored 0.15nm NNW of the W Jetty Head and No 1 Lightbuoy (port hand) 0.05nm E of the entrance.
