Provincetown (USPVC)

Provincetown has a large anchorage area with excellent holding ground.

Provincetown, Massachusetts, is located by the bend in the N end of the Hook of Cape Cod, lies between Long Point, the NE end of the hook, and the coast 2nm NE.

Anchorages are available SE and E of Long Point in depths of up to 18.0m. Anchorage is prohibited in the approach fairway, width 90m, which leads NW from a point 0.3nm E of Long Point to the piers at Provincetown and within 90m of the piers.

Approach from NW: From a position W of Race Point, the approach to Provincetown Harbor leads SE, passing (with reference to Wood End, 42°01'N 070°11'W): SW of Wood End Light (white square tower, 12.0m in height) (0.4nm NW), then: Clear of No 11 Lightbuoy (port hand), which is moored close SW of a dangerous wreck, the position of which is approx. Then the approach leads NE through waters clear of charted dangers, passing: SE of No 3 Lightbuoy (1.5nm NE) which marks the limit of a bank extending E from Long Point. A light (white square tower) stands on the point. Then to the anchorages and the inner harbour.

A Coast Guard station is situated on the SW side of the harbour, approx 0.5nm SW of the town pier.

Berths are allocated by the Harbour Master.

Race Point Light (42°04'N 070°15'W). Pilgrim Monument (42°03'N 070°11'W), a stone tower, 77m in height, from which red obstruction lights are exhibited. Radar domes (42°02'N 070°03'W) at N Truro. Spire (42°00'N 070°03'W) of a large church at Truro.
