The port, which is a Customs port of entry, used to handles paper products, oil, container and general cargo.

Outer fairway anchorage limits are in mid position 29°50'N 085°31'W, in depths of 10-20m.

Directions for entering harbour: The approach should be made from the W through the Safety Fairway, from a position in the vicinity of 29°50'N 085°47'W, keeping clear of a dangerous wreck to the vicinity of St Joe Lightbuoy (safe water, Morse "A", whistle) (29°51.8'N 085°29.6'W). Entry is along a dredged channel marked by lightbuoys, around St Joseph Point. Entrance channel, ENE reach: Then the alignment (062°) of entrance Leading Lights "A", intensified on the leading line, leads through the centre of the channel for a distance of 3.6nm: Front light (red vertical mark, white stripe, on piles) (29°54.4'N 085°24.3'W). Rear light (red vertical mark, white stripe, on framework tower) (1.5nm ENE of the front light). Entrance channel E reach: Then the alignment (089.5°) of Leading Lights "B", intensified on the leading line, leads through the centre of the channel for a distance of 1.4nm: Front light (red vertical mark, white stripe, on framework tower, on piles) (29° 53.7'N 085°23.1'W). Rear light (red vertical mark, white stripe, on framework tower) (0.7nm E of the front light). Entrance channel, ESE reach: Then the alignment (119.5°) of Leading Lights "C" intensified on the leading line, leads through the centre of the channel for a distance of 1.2nm: Front light (red vertical mark, white stripe on framework tower, on piles) (29° 52.9'N 085°22.5'W). Rear light (red vertical mark, white stripe, on framework tower, on piles) (0.75nm ESE of front light). Entrance channel, S reach: Thence the alignment (359°), astern of Leadiing Lights "D", intensified on the leading line, leads through the centre of the channel for a distance of 2.5nm, passing close E of St Joseph Point: Front light (red vertical mark, white stripe, on framework tower, on piles) (29° 53.7'N 085°23.1'W). Rear light (red vertical mark, white stripe, on framework tower, on piles) (0.6nm N of the front light). North channel: Then the alignment (113°) of North channel Leading Lights leads through the centre of the channel, for a distance of 3.8nm, directly into the turning basin and wharf area: Front light (red vertical mark, white stripe, on framework tower, on roof of warehouse) (29°49.1'N 085°18.8'W). Rear light (red vertical mark, white stripe, on framework tower, on roof) (123m ESE of the front light).
