Hollis (USHSH)

Hollis is a settlement in a bay on the NW side of Twelvemile Arm. As the home port of the Inter-Island Ferry Authority, Hollis is the gateway to Prince of Wales Island.

Situated on the N side of Clark Bay on the E coast of Prince of Wales Island.

Draught 10.6m.

Hollis anchorage lies WSW of the settlement, in a bay formed on the S side by Cat Island, a large island 121m in height. The anchorage is constricted by an extensive mud flat, with underwater pilings bordering the outer edge, which fills the N part of the bay.

The entrance channel, passing NE of Cat Island, has a depth of 7.6m. The entrance channel leads NW, passing: SW of 2 rocks awash on the outer edge of a drying ledge extending 200m W from the island on the NE side of the entrance, then: NE of a gravel bank that dries 2.7m and extends 0.2nm E from the N point of Cat island. Then, proceeding to the anchorage the track leads W, passing between the drying gravel bank and a rock that dries 1.5m, marked by a beacon lying 200m N of the E end of the bank and less than 90m off the coast on the N side of the channel.
