Hawk Inlet (USHWI)

The port main operations included shipment of ore such as zinc, silver, gold and lead produce from Green Creeks Mine.

The port located in the southeast Alaska on Admiralty Island, approx 22nm E from Hoonah.

Draught 10m, LOA 182.88m, Beam 30.48m

Anchorage for shallow-draft vessels can be had in 7 to 11m in the basin at the head of the inlet. Extensive mud flats surround the anchorage. The channel leading to the basin has a depth of at least 5m. To make the channel, keep off the E shore by about 0.1 mile. The channel is winding with strong currents and should not be attempted without local knowledge.

The port has its entrance on the E of Chatham Strait located 9nm SE of Rocky Island light 13 (58°10.6'N, 135°03.1'W). Channel then leads 4nm N from the entrance mouth and the leads towards NE direction.
