Nantucket (USACK)

Nantucket Harbor, Maine, is situated on the N coast of Nantucket Island in the S section of Nantucket Sound.

Anchorage is available in depths of 1.8-5.2m off the S and SW sides of Brant Point or in depths of 3.7-5.2m in general anchorage of Brant Point. The bottom is good holding ground in general . Small craft are advised to use heavy ground tackle as E winds raise a choppy sea. In NE winds anchorage may be dangerous off the wharves and safer anchorage may be obtained in head of the harbor, 4nm NE of Brant Point, in depths of 1.7-8.0m or Polpis Harbor, 3nm ENE of the point, in depths of 0.6-2.1m.

Nantucket Harbor is approached by a dredged channel which leads between two breakwaters extending across shallow flats that extend 1nm offshore. The harbour is entered between Brant Point and Coatue Point, the SW end of Coatue Beach, 0.5nm N. At half tide the E breakwater is almost entirely below water and the W breakwater partially so. Leading lights: Front light (red rectangle, white stripe, on white framework tower, 41°17'N 070°05'W). Rear light, 73m from front light.
