Gocek (TRGCK)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The port of Gocek is sheltered from all winds and swells. There are numerous berths for pleasure and fishing craft. The area is considered a tourist resort. Some of the berths have piers protruding 20-30m from the shore into the bay. However, these do not obstruct navigation and manoeuvring. Chrome Ore is loaded from the main berth.

The port is located, on the NW part of Fethiye Bay on Turkey's Mediterranean coast approx 100km ENE of the Greek island of Rhodes.

Draught 10.0m.

Anchorages are available as follows: North side of Gocek in depths of 3.0-10.0m, mud and weed. West side of Gocek, NW of Iltur Club Marina, in depths of 5.0-12.0m; good shelter. Bay close S of Gocek town quay. Not the best anchorage as open to the prevailing winds.

The approach to Gocek leads through a deep channel between Gocek Island and mainland, approx 0.3nm wide and 1nm long. Approach speed should be at the minimum. There are two flat unlit buoys, painted white approx 80m from the shore, NW and NE from Akmaden Lighthouse. Both buoys are marked 'MY HALAS' on the sides. In addition, there are to two small white buoys close SW, marking the entrance to the yacht harbour.

When berthing port side alongside (recommended), the vessel's stern will, at times, be quite close to the buoys. Starboard anchor should be used well in advance in order to swing the vessels to starboard and to facilitate the departure. Because the swinging area is quite restricted, manoeuvres should be carried out without haste and carefully.

Pilotage is optional, but recommended, with local pilots available. Request for local pilot should be made through agent at least 48 hours in advance. The pilot will board the vessel approx 1nm SE of Gocek Island. The pilot vessel will usually help with mooring.

The harbour limits are the sea area lying SW of a line drawn between Kucukkargi Burnu 36°42.6'N 029°00.0'E and 36°33.0'N 028°51.0'E; W of a line drawn S from 36°33.0'N 028°51.0'E to the outer limit of territorial waters; E of a line drawn S from Kizil Burnu 36°47.2'N 028°32.5'E to the outer limit of territorial waters.

Due to the nearby paper factory, vessels with paper waste cargo have priority at the port.
