Oxelosund (SEOXE)

The deep water commercial port handles large tankers, bulk carriers, containers, Ro-Ro and general cargo vessels.

Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Oxelosund is situated on the E coast of a peninsula about 100km from Stockholm, 13km NW of Havringe at the seaward end of Braviken.

Max draught 15.5m, LOA 265m, beam 38m, 120,000DWT.

Approx 630 vessels visit the port and 4,188,000t of cargo handled annually.

Outer anchorage: Area A: A large vessel anchorage is established centred on a position 2nm SE of Gustaf Dalen Lighthouse (58°35.7'N 017°28.0'E), with general depths of 45m. Area B: Anchorage for other vessels, centred 2.8nm ENE of Gustav Dalen Lighthouse. In the outer harbour area, anchorage may be obtained 0.5nm W of Vinterklasen (58°38.5'N 017°08'E) in depths of approx 31-39m, clay. In the approaches to Jarnverkshamnen, anchorage may be obtained in the S central part of Orsbaken, approx 0.7nm ENE of Kolhalsen Light (58°41.5'N 017° 10.7'E) in depths of approx 22.0m, clay. Anchorage may also be obtained in Alofjarden S of Korpholmen (58°40.6'N 017°08.8'E) in depths of approx 14.0m, clay. This anchorage is well sheltered except in strong NE winds. Minefield: A permanent defensive minefield is laid down in: a). the harbour entrance, between Femore and Furo and b). Steelworks port: N of Kolhalsen Island; N of Alo Island. Anchoring, fishing and underwater operations are prohibited.

The main harbour is approached from seaward and entered through channels, marked by buoys, light buoys lights and beacons, on the alignment of leading lights. The E part of the harbour at Jarnverkshamnen is approached from seaward through a channel, marked by lightbuoys, buoys, lights and beacons on the alignment of leading lights and in the sectors of lights. The outer part of the channel also forms part of the main approach to Nykoping. It is entered through a channel in Alofjarden, marked by buoys and a sector light. The harbour remains ice free for most of the year. Side channel from the W: From the W part of Braviken vessels approaching Oxelosund may enter the harbour through an alternative channel, authorised for a draught of 6.0m. Jarnverkshamnen entrance channel: From a position in Orsbaken, 0.7nm SW of Trutbadan Light, (58°41.4'N 017°16.2'E), the channel to Jarnverkshamnen branches of the main Nykoping approach channel from seaward to lead 1.5nm WNW then 2nm WSW to the harbour, initially through Orsbaken, then Alofjarden. The fairway marked by buoys, leads 0.5nm SW to the berthing area. Branch channel: A branch channel authorised for a draught of 3.9m, connects the main Oxelosund entrance channel to the secondary Nykoping entrance channel which is the continuation NW of Havringe S entrance channel. It is entered 0.1nm NW of Beten Light (58°38.7'N 017°08.6'E) and leads 2.5nm NE through the islands to join the secondary channel 0.25nm W of (Laga Mellskar, 58°40.5'N 017°12.7'E) passing between Alo and Hasselo. Pilot ordersing should normally be carried out via the e-Services section on the Swedish Maritime Administration website (www.sjofartsverket.se), in conjunction with the reporting on the Vessel Reporting Stystem (FRS) section. A preliminary pilot request must be made via the FRS at least 24 hours in advance. The definitive pilot request must be made via the FRS at least 5 hours in advance.
