Monsteras (SEMON)

Monsteras is a well sheltered small loading harbour, with an outer harbour situated on Okno, a peninsular SE of the town, which is connected to the mainland by road. The inner harbour lies close SE of the town. The port is currently closed to commercial shipping. Information is retained should the port reopen.

Monsteras is located on the W side of Kalmarsund, approx 40km N of Kalmar.

Anchorage may be obtained in the outer roads in a position W of Raggrund, about 2nm NNE of Okno Rear Leading Light, in depths of 5.5m to 10.0m. In the inner roads anchorage may be obtained in a position N of the NW part of Okno, in depths of 5.0m to 9.0m. Prohibited anchorage: Anchoring is prohibited within 100m of a submarine power cable, shown on the chart, laid between Okno and Bjorno Ekleskar, crossing the channel SE of the inner roads.

Pilot assistance is recommended for vessels with a draught exceeding 2.8m. Pilots are available from Kalmar and Oskarshamn and can be reached 24 hours a day on VHF Ch 13.

The harbour is usually obstructed by ice from January to March.

VHF: Port: Ch 13. Pilots and VTS can be contacted via VHF and are operational 24 hours a day. The Harbour Master is available on VHF during office hours.
