🧭 Navigation Information
Anchorages
Small vessels can obtain anchorage seaward of the submerged detached breakwater (55°36'N 012°55'E), which protects Oljehamnen, Limhamn, in a depth of 9.0m, rock and clay, on the alignment (150° approx) of Limhamn church.
Approaches
Controlling depths: Channel to Oljehamnen: 10.5m. Channel to Centralhamnen: 8.4m. Channel to Sodra Hamnen: 5.0m. The port is divided into 3 separate harbours: Oljehamnen: A "T" headed pier for oil tankers projecting WNW from a breakwater, which extends 300m NNE from Sundholmen, an island but for a narrow neck of land connecting with the mainland and separating Centralhamnen from Sodra Hamnen. The berth is protected by a submerged detached breakwater. Centralhamnen: A single large basin, which is the main area for handling cargo, approached from NNE through a dredged channel almost parallel with the channel leading to Oljehamnen. Sodra hamnen: A single basin with the ferry port, approached through a dredged channel leading E from Trindelranan. Directions for entering harbour: Oljehamnen: From a position approx 1nm NNE of Limhamn Norra Light (white framework tower, red band) (55°36'N 012°56'E) at the head of the breakwater the track leads SSW in the white sector (192-211.5°) of Limhamn Norra Light, passing 0.05nm WNW of the lightbuoy (safe water), moored 0.5nm NNE of the light into dredged channel, 100m in width, marked by lighted buoys (lateral). The buoys are only lit when needed. Access to Oljehamnen from the W is hampered by the submerged detached breakwater (0.2nm NW of Limhamnen Norra Light) and Roset a patch close S of the SW extremity of the breakwater. Centralhamnen: Channel Limit Lights: Front lights (black and white triangles, point up, on grey framework towers) (55°35'N 012°55'E) on the moleheads of the harbour entrance, floodlit. Rear lights (black and white triangles, point down, on grey framework towers) (775m farther SSW). These pair of lights, Vastra and Ostra, in line (201.5° and 200.5°), mark respectively the W and E limits of the dredged channel leading SSW from a position close ESE of the lightbuoy (safe water) into a dredged channel, 80m in width, marked by pairs of buoys (lateral), to the harbour entrance. Sodra Hamnen: Leading lights: Front light (red triangle, point up, black border, on white framework tower) (55°35'N 012°55'E). Rear light: (red triangle, point down, on grey framework tower) (150m farther E). The alignment (097°) of these lights leads E from a position 1.5nm W of the front light in Trindelrannan, passing N of a 4.0m shoal (0.85nm W of the front light), at the N edge of the coastal bank, which extends 2nm WSW from the harbour entrance, as far as the mouth of the harbour, marked by buoys (lateral).
