Grisslehamn developed as result of postal traffic between Sweden and Finland, and is made up of an E and W harbour. The E harbour has a ferry terminal, linking it with Finland, plus facilities for fishing and small vessels. The W harbour, which is primarily for small vessels, lies on the SE end of Ornofjarden. From the beginning of Jan to early Mar, the port is usually closed due to ice.
