Noro (SBNOR)

Noro is located on a group of islands known as New Georgia Islands, which lie to the W of the Solomon Islands group.

LOA 200m, draught 16.0m.

The lagoon area, S of Cutter Point, provides an anchorage in a depth of 20.0m.

Noro (Cutter Point) is situated on New Georgia Island, on the E side of Hathorn Sound. The Sound has unobstructed access to New Georgia Strait either N, through Kula Gulf, or W, through Blackett Strait and Vella Gulf. At Cutter Point the Sound is approx 1,100m wide, with a depth of 30m or greater, increasing to a width of approx 2,200m at the entrance to Kula Gulf opposite Lembu Bay. Therefore there is sufficient space for vessels to turn without the aid of tugs.

Pilots are arranged through a local agent at Gizo. Pilotage is compulsory for all foreign vessels over 40m. The pilot boards in the following position 08° 11.00'S 157°12.00'E. Pilot boarding/disembarking to the Noro Overseas Wharf: 30mins (port); 45-60mins (starboard).

Berthing is restricted to daylight hours only, except for those vessels departing.

Tide runs towards Diamond Narrows at 3kts (LW) and towards Noro entrance at HW.
