The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The port is the centre of the Sakhalin coal industry, cargo operations are conducted in the roads by means of barges. Due to these cargo operations in the roads, vessels may sail short loaded during bad weather. The basin is mainly for the use of lighters working cargo and for small vessels. Navigation is restricted to Apr - Oct as there is consolidated sea ice in the port area in winter. Ice breaker assistance is not available.
