Poronaysk (RUPRN)

The port and associated harbour are said to be the best on Sakhalin Island with principal exports of timber, fish and skins. Principal imports are rice, salt and alcohol. Vessels are worked at anchor by barges where there are no LOA or draught restrictions. The navigation period is from Dec to Apr.

North Pacific Winter Seasonal Zone, Winter Oct 16 to Apr 15, Summer Apr 16 to Oct 15.

The port of Poronaysk is located at the mouth of the River Poronai, on the SE coast of Sakhalin island.

Anchorage can be found 1.8km to the SE of Poronai estuary in depths of 8.0-10.0m, sand , good holding but open to E'ly and S'ly winds. It is not recommended to anchor in depths of less than 8.0m.

Non Russian vessels must use the charted fairway commencing in position 49° 04.7'N 143°19.7'E, approx 12nm SE of Poronaysk Light, on a course of 314.5° to the anchorage. This fairway is 1nm wide. Local knowledge is necessary when entering the harbour.

Not available. The coast radio station at Poronaysk provides radar assistance to vessels entering and leaving the port, on request.

Poronaysk Light is exhibited from a black octagonal concrete tower, with white bands, 32m in height, standing on the W side of the river mouth. A radio beacon transmits from the Light.

Speed is restricted to 5kts within the harbour.

Mean min and max tidal range 0.2-0.3m.

Shallow draught tugs are available.
