Sangi (PHSNG)

The port consists of numerous piers handling coal and used to service the associated coal-fired power plants. Further piers at the port are used to handle fertilisers, Ro-Ro cargo and passengers.

Sangi is located on the W coast of Cebu Island, opposite the port of San Carlos on Negros Island, Philippines.

Max LOA 230.00m, beam 38.02m, draught 14.5m and 93,379DWT.

Anchorage area is permitted off Toledo is in a position with Toledo Church bearing 125° and Luok Point, situated 2.6nm SW of Toledo, bearing 228°. This anchorage has a depth of 33m and is located approx 0.3nm off the beach.

There are no dangers and deep water available up to berths, controlling depth 16.0m.

Berthing and unberthing can be at any time. It is advisable to use an anchor to assist berthing. In the NE monsoon (Oct - Mar) piers 1-4 should be approached from the S and this is especially necessary on the falling tide. In the SW monsoon (May - Sep), especially on the rising tide, the piers should be approached from N; as the land provides no lee, berthing may be hazardous under these conditions. Vessels must be prepared to leave the berth at the first sign of bad weather.

Pilotage is not compulsory but strongly recommended on first visit. Available 24 hours throughout the day but requires 4 hours notice. The pilot from Cebu City (75km) will board off the piers from a local catamaran, weather permitting.

Lights are exhibited from No 1 Pier (fixed green) and No 2 Pier (fixed red). Further conspicuous landmarks onshore are three oil tanks and four tall chimneys and at night lights from these buildings can be seen.

Prevailing winds: NE'ly (Oct-Mar); SW'ly (Jul-Sep). Monsoon: NE Monsoon (Oct-Mar) and SW Monsoon (May-Sep). Piers 1-4 in the N section of the port area are fully exposed to the SW Monsoon.
