π Port Overview

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. It is the largest bay on the coast of Peru, North of Callo, depth at the entrance is 36-40m, shoaling gradually. Formally a lighterage port for sugar, and one of the best open ports on the coast, despite constant swell, it now lies idle, but there is the intention of re-opening it as an industrialised fishing port to ease the situation at Chimbote, where the growth of the fishing business has been erratic and uncontrolled.
