Huacho (PEHCO)

Puerto Huacho is a dry cargo lightering port, for the export of fishmeal.

Tropical.

Located on the SW coast of Peru, about 150km N of Callao.

Approx. 8,500t of cargo and 400 vessels handled annually.

Anchorage for general cargo vessels can be taken, in depths of 11.0m - 12.8m, sand, with the pier head bearing 145°. Holding ground is good, but a W'ly and SW'ly swell may pose problems. Quarantine anchorage is located 0.86nm NW of the above and larger vessels can anchor 0.4nm NNW of Punta Huacho.

Bahia Huacho is entered between Punta Huacho (11°07'S 077°37'W), reddish rocky headland 60m in height, fringed by a reef and Punta Carquin, 2nm NNW, similar to Punta Huacho, but with the sea frequently breaking on it. Care is necessary to avoid the rocks extending up to 0.1nm N of Punta Huacho.

Pilots are not available at Huacho, ETA to be sent at least 24 hours in advance.

Useful lights: Punta Huacho Light exhibited from white concrete tower, 10m in height (11°07.4'S 077°37.0'W). Jetty Head Light 11°07.1'S 077°36.8'W. Dock Light 11°07.1'S 077°36.9'W.

Mean spring range 0.7m; mean neap range 0.3m.
