Finnsnes (NOFNE)

Finnsnes is a major population centre in the Lenvik region, with important sea and road transportation links. There are several industries in the surrounding area, including a large smelting works.

Finnsnes is located in the N part of Finnfjorden, a small fjord which adjoins the larger fjord of Solbergfjorden. It is 57nm NNE of Narvik.

The bay approaching the quayside affords good anchorage for smaller vessels, although some ice may drift in from Laksfjorden in winter.

There are numerous rocks, shallows and narrow channels throughout the area. Care should be taken in the passage through Finnfjorden and the approaches to the town and berths. To the N of the town, the Gisundet Bridge has a vertical clearance of 41m HAT.

Admiralty Pilot NP58B.

The numerous narrow channels in Finnfjorden are marked by lit and unlit beacons. Major headlands are marked with directional lights, of which the most important is the Finnsnes Light, Oc(1)WRG 6s 16M 3-2M, on the SW point of the town.
