Fonnes (NOFNN)

The harbour area is located along an inlet, approximately 0.5nm long, with a breakwater to the NW at the seaward end, providing good shelter. The main quay handles break bulk and container cargoes. Services are also provided for the offshore industry. Two quays in the North West are mainly used by large commercial fishing vessels.

Fonnes is located along a small inlet, located on the South side of the Fensfjorden sea area, 3km West of the Mongstad Refinery and Terminal and 50km NNW of Bergen.

Largest vessel: "MV Heidi". LOA105m, Beam 16m, Draught 6.7m, 5,672DWT.

There is an extenstive anchorage area, 30m to 60m deep, the centre of which is approx 0.5nm NW of Fonnes Breakwater. Permission to anchor should be requested via the Fedje VTS Centre as larger vessels may also use this which are waiting to berth at Mongstad Terminal. Further instructions may be obtained from the Pilot.

From the South side of Fensfjorden, a course leads SSE, with positions relative to Vagskjertaren Light (60°48.8'N 04°58.3'E) [Light sequence Q(1).W.1s, 4m high and visible from up to 2nm], as follows: ..... WSW of Foul Ground (0.8nm NNE) fringing the NW side of Havarden. Then ENE of Drogeflua (0.5nm WNW). The track then leads S, passing: E of Vagskjertaren Light, a post marking the E side of a patch of drying ground; a rock, with a depth of 6.8m, lies close SE of the light. Then E of Vagskjeret (128m S), an above water rock 0.6nm NW of the end of Fonnes Breakwater.

Norwegian State Pilot can be ordered electronically, using the SafeSeaNet (http://www.kystverket.no/en) but may also be ordered from Fedje Pilot Station. Pilotage is compulsory for all foreign vessels and Norwegian vessels over 4,000GT.

Speed limit of 5kt within the harbour.

All vessels wishing to navigate within the VTS area must request sailing clearance from the Fedje VTS at least one hour before their arrival at the limit of this area. This requirement includes vessels intending to leave a quay, berth, or mooring within the VTS area. ..... The Fedje VTS area is divided into two sectors, as follows: 1.
