Forde (NOFDE)

The main berthing area for Forde is at Steinen, W of the river mouth and at the shipyard on the N side of Oyrane. The port mainly handles cement, break bulk and general cargo.

Forde stands on the mouths of the Jolstra, which flows into the head of Fordefjorden.

Anchorage is available throughout the inner part of the fjord off Forde but mariners are advised to keep clear of the shoal water along the NE shore and off the river mouths.

Forde is approached through the length of Fordefjorden and entered S of Bjornsnes (61°28.4'N 005°48.5'E).

Submarine cables and pipelines: A submarine cable is laid from the S shore at Steinen (61°27.6'N 004°49.6'E) in a NW direction out towards Ulltangneset Light. Outfall pipelines are also laid from both sides of the SW river mouth beside Steinen for a short distance out into the head of the fjord.

Mean spring range 1.6m; mean neap range 0.7m.
