Alta (NOALF)

The port of Alta which incorporates the three settlements of Bossekop, Bukta and Elvebakkenis is a cruise, ferry and cargo port and the largest cargo port in Finnmark County. There are daily fast ferries to Hammerfest and Hasvik, also car ferries.

Alta is situated in Altafjorden, S of Hammerfest.

Approx 665,000t of cargo handled annually.

Anchorages are available with depths of 30-40m. The airport flightpath is over the bay, where anchorage is prohibited.

Altafjorden is entered between Klubbneset and Store Korsneset and extends about 18nm S and SE. Alta is situated at the head of the fjord, with two seperate port areas. Altafjorden is mostly clear and deep, and is accessable to large vessels. Shoals which are dangerous to navigation are marked. Local magnetic anomalies have been reported in the outer part of Altafjorden and in Kafjorden, its SW fjord arm.

Cargo and bunker fuel (UN number and quality of hazardous or polluting cargo, type and quantity of bunker fuel etc) 14. Details of passage (Last port of call, next port of call etc) 15. Details related to pilotage requests and pilotage exemption certificates (PEC) 16. Agent or Operator (i.e. Norwegian contact) 17. Shipping company (Name and address).

Alta harbour district comprises the waters SE of a line joining Auskarneset and Russeluft.
