Anchorages: No anchorage information available for this port. Sea buoys, fairways and channels: The route described follows the deep water route which is only for the use of vessels with a draught more than 17.4m and a length 250m as far as the Maas precautionary area. From the vicinity of 51° 58'N 003°00'E on the West side of Eurogeul approach area, the route runs 40nm in a generally E'ly direction through Eurogeul and then Maasgeul to Maasmond at the entrance of Nieuwe Waterweg. Smaller vessels use the Maas West Outer and the Maas West Inner TSS and join or leave Maasgeul to the East of "MO" Lightbuoy (safe water, 52°01'N 003°58'E). The traffic lanes run parallel to the deep water route, with the West going route between 2-5nm to the North and the East going route between 1.5-6nm to the South. The S'ly limit of the TSS is marked by MW 1, MW 3 and MW 5 Lightbuoys (all starboard hand) and the N'ly limit of the TSS by "MW 2", "MW 4" and "MW 6" Lightbuoys (all port hand). Tidal range and flow: Range 1.1m. Dock density: 1025. Weather: Prevailing winds: W'ly. The wind and tide strongly influence the sea conditions in the approaches to Maasmond and in storm conditions may make entry hazardous. The main effects are: 1. Storm force winds from the NW cause a rough sea with a possible ground swell at the time of LW. They also cause a strong SW going stream while hardly any flow NE. Wave heights may exceed 6m. 2. Storm force winds from the SW cause lesser seas but a very strong NE going stream and a weak SW going stream. 3. A ground swell often arises during a SW going stream. 4. A confused sea occurs near the harbour entrance with a strong tide running against the wind. Entry is not recommended in these conditions. With storms from the NW the most favourable time of entry is 1 hour after HW at Hook of Holland, when wave heights are reduced. Reducing speed to let the waves run faster than the vessel is recommended in these circumstances. With storms from the SW the most favourable time of entry is 2 to 3 hours after HW Hook of Holland. Traffic schemes: Eurogeul and Maasgeul, which together form the deep water channel, are reserved for vessels with a draught of 17.4m or more. The W and E sections of Eurogeul run through the separation zone of two TSS (51°58'N 003° 14'E), which runs 5nm East from the E side of Noord Hinder Junction Precautionary Area, and Maas West Inner TSS (52°01'N 003°41'E), which runs 7nm East to the W boundary of the Maas Precautionary Area. There is crossing traffic in the area between the two TSS. Maas North TSS (52°07'N 003°56'E) runs 3nm N from the N boundary of the Maas precautionary area. Vessels that are unable to participate in the traffic scheme should report, if possible before entering the area, to Haven Central Traffic Control callsign "HCC", by telephone, telex or VHF. Vessels proceeding to Hook van Holland should contact "Hook van Holland" (callsign "VCH"). Restrictions: Depth at entrance 16.1m MLWS. No limitations HW as depth 18.9m.
