The port is owned and operated by Vale for the import of nearly 2,000,000t of bulk solids (sulphur, coal and limestone) and liquids (LPG and heavy fuel oil). The general cargo berth will handle over 9,000TEU/year, exporting approx 4,500TEU of Nickel and cobalt at full capacity.

Prony Port is located in Prony Bay on S coast of New Caledonia.

Good anchorage in the roadstead, in 40m-50m of water. PRY1: 22°21.00'S 166°52.82'E, PRY2: 22°21.59'S 166°53.42'E.

Compulsory for all foreign commercial vessels and foreign yachts over LOA 80m. Boulari Central Pass: No draught or length restriction. Dry cargo vessels: Pilot in position 22°31.30'S 166°24.50'E. Tankers: Pilot in position 22°32.00'S 166°23.70'E. Boulari North Pass: Max LOA 250m and 14m max draught. Pilot in position 22°31.17 S 166°24.83'E. Havannah Pass: 10.6m max draught for dry cargo vessels, 10.0m max draught for tankers Dry cargo vessels: Pilot in position 22°20.53'S 167°02.90'E. Tankers: Pilot in position 22°19.06'S 167°06.72'E. Dumbea Pass: 14m max draught via tanker channel, 10m max draught via direct channel (Note: this pass is not suitable for Prony). Dry cargo vessels: Pilot in position 22°22.80'S 166°13.70'E.
