Tanjung Pelepas (MYTPP)

Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) is a major free zone transhipment container port with ongoing services to Singapore and Indonesia. The port is adjacent to the Malaysia and Singapore Second crossing and close to the international shipping lanes of the Malacca Straits. Sheltered with natural harbour conditions and access to natural deep waters. Tanjung Bin: Is a power station located on the opposite bank and has a jetty for discharging coal and diesel oil.

Tanjung Pelepas is located at the mouth of the River Pulai, in SW Johor in the Peninsular Malaysia.

LOA 400m, beam 62m, draught 17.5m, 324,690DWT.

Approx 135,500,000t of cargo, 12,500,000TEU and 4,700 vessels handled annually.

Anchoring within port limits shall be at designated anchorage areas bounded by the following coordinates: General Purpose Anchorage: ..... A From 01°16.67'N 103°34.96'E to B 01°15.16'N 103°34.96'E to C 01°13.50'N 103°34.65'E to D 01°15.36'N 103°33.00'E to E Then NE to position A. Explosives and Hazardous Cargo Anchorage: ..... Vessels of up to 150m in length may obtain an anchorage, in deep water, within an area 0.6nm N of SP1 Lightbuoy (01°22'N 103°32'E). Small craft moorings are situated S of No 12 container berth.

The port is approached from a position NW of Singapore Western Boarding Ground in the Cross Traffic area of the TSS, S of Tanjung Piai Beacon Racon (M). Vessels approaching the channel from the east or westbound lane are advised to approach at an angle of no more than 20 degrees, due to cross current at the entrance area. Entry is through a dredged channel, with a length of 6.7nm, width 420m, dredged to a depth of 16.0m CD, allowing two way traffic of super post Panamax vessels, marked by lightbuoys (lateral), the centre line of which is marked by sector leading lights. The turning basin is 600m in diameter.

Pilots are available 24hrs a day. Pilotage is compulsory for the port of Tanjung Pelepas and within port limits for all vessels of LOA 15m or over. Pilot boarding area is located at 01°14.7'N 103°32.2'E. Waiting anchorage for Pilot is 1nm E off the pilot boarding location. PTP Port Control, VHF Ch 83, Tel: +60 7 504 2299, Fax: +60 7 504 1407. Pilots are to be requested 3 hours before arrival or departure from the Port Office (Callsign PTP Control). Arrival information should include: ..... i. Last port of call ii. Arrival draught iii. Cargo Vessels should report to the Port Control Centre 2hrs prior to arrival at the Pilot boarding area. Prior permission must be obtained from the Tanjung Pelepas Port Control Office for any vessel movement. All vessels operating within the port limits are under the surveillance of the port's radar system. Tanjung Pelepas will provide pilots for passage to Johor Bahru within the West Johor Strait; boarding positions and times are arranged between the pilotage service and the vessel in advance.

Sector lights, buoyage system and leading lights are used to mark the approaches and channels.

The port lies within the STRAITREP operational area. Prior permission must be obtained from the Tanjung Pelepas Port Control Office for any vessel movement. All vessels operating within the port limits are under the surveillance of the port's Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) and the Port Radar System (PRS).

Available. The port operator may stipulate the minimum number of tugs to be employed based on the LOA and draught of the vessel. Capacity: All tugs have 40t bollard pull with 3,200hp. ..... Vessels less than LOA 150m 1 tug Vessels more than LOA 150m 2 tugs Tug's lines are used.

Thunderstorms occur frequently between monsoons, in April and May and again during November and December. Only during these times will visibility be affected in the area.

Vessels should advise their ETA to the Port Office and/or local Agent at least 7 days prior to arrival using Vessel Clearance System (VCS). Upon submission of vessels registration a Vessel Call Number (VCN) will be generated. The report should be sent to the Port Control Center 2 hours prior to arrival at the pilot boarding area.

There is a requirement to fly the Malaysian National flag during operations/stay at the terminal.
