Risan (MERSN)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The port of Risan is mostly used for accommodating general cargo and Ro-Ro vessels and also has facilities for passenger/cruise vessels.

Risan Port lies on the N side of Bokakotorska Bay.

Max draught 6.0m.

Anchorage is available in Zelenika (entrance to Bokakotorska Bay) but approach to anchorage must be made with pilot onboard or vessels will be instructed by Pilot Office where to anchor in depths of 20.0-30m, mud, good holding ground. Usually vessels anchor 0.3-0.5nm fromn Zelenika Port Light. In case of need, anchorage is also available in the vicinity of Risan port in position 42°30.5'N 018°41.3'E, but depending on weather conditions pilot will decide where to anchor, in depth of 15.0-20.0m, mud, good holding ground.

There is no buoyed channel to Risan port. During piloting to Risan there are two narrow areas (channels) known as Kumbor and Verige Channels.

Vessels can be berthed port or starboard side. For easier sailing, it is preferable to berth starboard side alongside whenever weather permits (as vessels can sail with no difficulties from N'ly or SW'ly winds). Usually vessels berth without use of anchors and secure alongside with 3 +1 ropes fore and aft.

Compulsory for vessels over 500GT. Pilots are arranged by Boka Pilot Services, situated in Risan port and are available throughout 24 hours. Pilot station operates on VHF Ch 14 and 16, but can also be contacted by Fax: +381 82 371488. There are two boarding positions: ..... During good weather 42°23.0'N 018°33.4'E During bad weather 42°26.4'N 018°32.8'E Depending on weather conditions, pilot decides where to board vessel.

The port limits are an imaginary line between Cape Banja and Rtac.

Speed during sea passage is restricted to 8kts and during narrow channels passage 6kts.

For narrow areas vessels are required to keep to starboard side.

Not compulsory, but can be hired on request (subject to pilot's decision).

Customs: Customs regulations allow 1 bottle of spirit and 200 cigarettes. Immigration: On arrival the crew are required to have valid passports and Seaman's Books, on which basis the local police will issue shore passes.

ETA to be advised to Port Authority 24 hours prior to arrival. Information to include any unusual ships and crews conditions (eg, if vessel has any construction/engine damage and if crew has serious illness. Notice should refer to boarding position (for good weather)). ETA message to include the following: ..... 1. Vessel's name 2. Master's name 3. Flag 4. GT 5. LOA 6. Arrival draught 7. Last port 8. Cargo onboard 9. Health conditions 10. Number of crew.

During night arrival, vessel is to exhibit quarantine light signals as red over white light.

ETA to include health conditions of crew as in the event of any illness on board, vessels cannot go alongside prior to Port Authority confirmation.

NOR should be sent directly to Risan port or via local agent stating the time of readiness and position. If notice is granted in the morning, readiness is accepted for the afternoon of that day, or if notice is granted during the afternoon, readiness is accepted for the following morning.
