El Jadida (MAELJ)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The port is controlled by Jorf Lasfar port and is protected by 2 breakwaters with a length of 600m. El Jadida is a fishing port.

El Jadida is situated approx 80km S of Casablanca and 170km N of Safi.

Draught 5.1m.

Anchorage can be obtained in Rade de El Jadida approx 0.75nm NE of the head of Jetee Nord, with Sidi Moussa tomb bearing approx 190°, in depths of 11.0-13.0m over indifferent holding ground of rock covered with sand. A heavy swell is raised by W winds at the anchorage, but some protection is afforded by Epi de Mazagan. It is recommended, especially in winter, that vessels be ready to weigh anchor immediately as the scend, caused by the heavy swell, between Epi de Mazagan and the coast renders deep draught vessels liable to touch the bottom.

The port is approached between Epi de Mazagan and the coast and entered through a dredged channel, min width 50m, 0.9nm SE of Cap de Mazagan.

Compulsory. Pilot comes from Safi, with 24 hours notice being required. The pilot boards 2nm from the harbour entrance.

Sidi Bou Afi Light: White tower, 51m in height and with a black top, standing 0.9nm SSW of Cap de Mazagan.
