Abu Kammash (LYABK)

Consisting of an industrial factory complex, about 0.8nm inland, identified by two white tanks.

Abu Kammash, also known as Sidi Said, is situated on the N Libyan coast approximately 24km from the Tunisian frontier.

LOA 149m, draught 7.5m.

From the Fairway Buoy (white conical) the approach channel, which is reported to be dredged to a depth of 8.0m over a width of about 150m, leads SW for a distance of 1.8nm to the pier. The channel is marked by four pairs of buoys (lateral), the positions of which are unreliable. It is reported that the channel is marked by leading lights, details of which should be obtained from the port authority. There is a turning area off the berth, about 300m in diameter.

Pilotage is compulsory and is provided by Zuwarah (Zuara). Requests for pilotage should be sent via Zuwarah Port. Pilot boards as directed by the Zuwarah port authority.

The Fairway Buoy (white conical) is situated in position 33°06.9'N 011°51.7'E.

VHF: Zuwarah Pilots: Ch 16, 08, 12. Vessels must contact Abu Kammash on Ch 16, 09 or 12 for clearance.

ETA should be sent to and arrival time calculated for Zuwarah Port.

Vessels over 20 years of age must have permission from the maritime inspection department to enter Libyan ports, Permission Forms should be applied for 2 weeks before vessels start to load.
