Shibushi is situated in the southern part of Kyushu, on the northern shore of Shibushi Bay.

Harbour: LOA 230m, beam 40m, 83,369DWT Off Shore: LOA 340m, draught 21m, 306,033DWT

Approx 9,000,000t of cargo, 110,000TEU and 3,000 vessels handled annually.

Anchorage can be obtained in Shibushi Bay to the SW of Biro Shima, but should be avoided when winds are from between E and S.

Draught limitation in the channel is 14.0m.

Pilotage is compulsory. Pilot boards vessels in the vicinity of the anchorage area, about 1.75nm W of Biro Shima, and in the vicinity of 31°25.00'N 131° 05.50'E.

The harbour limit is a line joining positions that lie 2.5nm NNE, 1.5nm WSW and 2.5nm NW of the N extremity of Biro Shima.

Night berthing and unberthing is not permitted.

Range max 2.22m; min 0.20m.

There are 3 tugs available, 1 x 3,200hp, 1 x 3,000hp and 1 x 2,600hp.

Radio pratique is applicable only by possessing a valid Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificate. It is not necessary to have a Japanese Sanitary Inspection Certificate. Radio pratique message: The message must include: ..... 1. RPM (Radio Pratique Message, to advise that the message is for radio pratique, abbreviated form used) 2. Name of port and departure date 3. Name(s) of port(s) of call and sailing dates during the last 15 days 4. Name of port of destination and ETA 5. Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificate, date and place of issue 6. Number of crew and passengers, if any 7. Whether or not there is a doctor onboard 8. Name of the Master of the vessel 9. Whether or not the vessel has transferred any passengers and or goods from another vessel or aircraft on the voyage during 15 days prior to arrival. If affirmative, details should be given. 10. Whether there are any patients onboard, or not, taken ill during 15 days prior to arrival. If yes, details of the illness must be given. 11. Whether there has been any death (with the exception of deaths caused by accident) during the 15 days prior to arrival. If yes, details should be given and must include: Name and age of the person(s) and/or present condition of the person(s). 12. Whether rats were caught and if there was any danger of the outbreak of black plague and if there was abnormal mortality amongst the rats. 13. Whether or not there are any goods onboard tainted by any virus or quarantineable epidemic. When the Master requires radio pratique he should cable the Head of the Quarantine Station via his agent in accordance with Quarantine rules which stipulate that this must be done within 36 hours prior to arrival at the port.
