San Benedetto del Tronto (ITSDB)

The harbour is formed by two moles, Molo Sud and Molo Nord. The town is well known as fishing center and tourist resort.

San Benedetto del Tronto is situated on the Adriatic coast of Italy.

Due to silting, the port authority should be contacted for maximum allowable draught.

Vessels can anchor, however it is dangerous with winds from NE quadrant.

Depths in the harbour are subject to significant change due to silting. Dredging is carried out periodically to a depth of 4.7m in the entrance and 3.7m in the N part of the harbour adjacent to Molo Nord. The S part of the harbour, in the vicinity of the new yacht marina, has been dredged to 2.5-4.5m but it is advisable to get confirmation of depths from the port authority. Directions for entering harbour: From close N of the head of Molo Sud the deepest water is found in a fairway which leads SSW passing: WNW, at a distance of approx 70m from the head of Molo Sud on which stands a light (red column on pedestal 6m, in height); then: In about mid-channel between the head of Molo Nord, on which stands a light (green column on pedestal, 7m in height), and the elbow formed by the junction of the inner and centre sections of Molo Sud. Then the fairway leads WNW into the N part of the harbour, rounding the head of the Molo Nord at a distance of approx 70m and passing close along the N edge of the shallow part of the harbour. Caution: Navigation is prohibited in the vicinity of a submarine pipeline extending approx 0.35nm in a 030° direction from a position on the shore approx 0.05nm N of the root of Molo Nord.

Prevailing winds: NW'ly. Movements in or out of the port can only be made in good weather and sea conditions. Winds and sea from the ENE are particularly dangerous.
