The port handles general cargo, dry bulk, container, Ro-Ro, passenger and liquid cargo.

Ortona is situated on the E coast of Italy, approx 10nm SE of Pescara.

LOA 200m, draught 6.8m, beam 32m, 58,502DWT.

Approx 1,040,000t of cargo and 1,000 passengers handled annually.

Outer anchorage: Situated within a radius of 0.7nm of position 42°22.5'N 014° 26.5'E, good holding ground, but dangerous in E winds. An outfall pipeline extends from the shore 0.5nm NW of Ortona Main Light in a NE direction for 1.25nm. The seaward end is unmarked and it is prohibited for vessels to approach within 200m of the pipeline. Anchorage can be obtained by vessels of suitable draught within the harbour and clear of the channels, affording moderate shelter in N and NE winds. The holding is bad.

From a position just outside the harbour entrance a dredged channel leads WNW marked by 2 buoys (port hand). The channel from the harbour entrance to the principal berths is dredged to 7.5m but is subject to constant silting. Navigation is prohibited in the vicinity of a detached rubble breakwater, height approx 0.3m, situated approx 0.25nm to seaward of Ortona Main light.
