Hvammstangi (ISHVM)

Midhfjordhur is exposed to incursions of polar ice, which penetrate to the fjord head. The port handles general cargo.

North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone I, Winter Oct 16 to Apr 15, Summer Apr 16 to Oct 15.

Hvammstangi is located on the E shore of Midhfjordhur, 4nm within the entrance.

LOA 128.34m, beam 16.5m, draught 6.5m, 8,326DWT.

The anchorage, in depths of 13.0-14.0m, good holding ground, is on the intersection of the approach leading line, and the alignment (007°) of a pair of beacons, front beacon (yellow, disc topmark, 3m in height), rear beacon (yellow, rectangle topmark, 3m in height), standing 0.1nm N of the town. This anchorage is untenable in N winds. Temporary anchorage is obtainable with local knowledge, in the lee of a small projection near Grof Farm, 2.75nm S of Anastadhir, in depths of 29-40m, sand. This anchorage cannot be used in N winds.

The approach to the anchorage and harbour is indicated by the alignment (077°), of a pair of leading beacons close SE of the town, front beacon (yellow; rectangle topmark, 3m in height) rear beacon (yellow; triangular topmark, 3m in height), located close ENE. Lights are exhibited from the heads of the breakwater and the jetty.
