Bandar Mahshahr (IRMRX)

Bandar Mahshahr is an oil port of the National Iranian Oil Company. Traffic and pilotage is initially controlled by the port authorities at Bandar Imam Khomeini, and from there to Bandar Mahshahr by the oil company. The refined oil products are transported via pipeline from the refinery at Abadan to the export terminal at Bandar Mahshahr. Additional facilities at the terminal cater for the exportation of crude oil.

Bandar Mahshahr is located approx 6nm NE of Bandar Imam Khomeini in Khor Musa, Iran.

Max LOA 243m, beam 43.0m, draught 13.0m and 109,189DWT.

Approx 10,800,000t of cargo handled annually.

Vessels for the port will anchor in the Bandar Imam Khomeini anchorage to disembark the bar pilot, await pratique and board the Berthing Masters.

The port is approached through Khowr-e Musa to Bandar Imam Khomeini and onto Bandar Mahshahr. Khowr-e Musa is entered between Ras-e Tanub and Bu Seyf, approx 19nm long, leading into the channel to Bandar Imam Khonmeini, approx 12nm long and 305m wide, ending at Bandar Mahshahr. The channel has restricted navigation due to tidal flats which dry in certain places. Khowr-e Musa may be approached through a deep channel, marked by lighted buoys and beacons, approx 21.7nm long and 0.3nm wide. The channel leading from Bandar Imam Khomeini to Bandar Mahshahr is wide, deep and clear. The approach channel has a depth of 12m and is marked by several beacons and light beacons, and the fairway off the berths is indicated by the alignment of a pair of light beacons, which are in line bearing 056.5°. It has been reported that there is a secondary approach channel W of Khowr-e Musa between position 29°56.3'N., 49°06.3'E and position 30°03.2'N., 49° 00.0'E. This channel is designated as a one-way channel to the port and is marked by lighted buoys. The channel is approx 7.8nm long, 500m and has depths of 7m.

Vessels arriving on the flood tide are berthed starboard side-to whereas vessels arriving on the ebb tide are berthed port side-to.

Pilotage is compulsory and pilots board near the entrance to the dredged channel through The Bar near Lighted Buoy No. 12. Berthing Masters will board tankers at Bandar Imam Khomeini anchorage and bring them to Bandar Mahshahr.

The S limit of the port is No 4 Light Beacon (30°26.7'N., 049°09.8'E).

Channels to the port are marked by lighted buoys and beacons.

The depth over Khor Musa bar restricted to 9.1m at LW, however dredging in the area has increased this depth, see developments. The SE shore of the river is foul, however, the outer section of the foul area is marked by numerous beacons.

MHWS: 4.9m, MHWN: 4m. The tidal current approx 3-4kts.

Two tugs, each of 4,500hp, are available; both must be in attendance when berthing and one or two when unberthing.

Prevailing winds: NE'ly and SW'ly monsoons.

Iranian flag must be displayed within territorial waters.

All tankers arriving to the port must do so with a clean ballast. On arrival the oil company will provide a Port Information Booklet.

Vessels bound for Bandar Mahshahr are required to anchor off Bandar Imam Khomeini to obtain pratique before proceeding further.
