Pindhara (INPIN)

The port offers anchorage in depths of 14.6m to 16.5m with mud bottom approx 16km offshore. Bauxite is the primary export from the port. The port is closed during monsoon May 15 to September 15.

Pindhara is located on the southern shore of the Gulf of Kutch in NW India.

Merodi Bet. Anchorage for a small vessel can be obtained about 0.5nm E of Merodi Bet and also on its W side in depths from 11.0 to 16.5m, mud: it is well sheltered from all winds but local knowledge is required before approaching the anchorage. Ajad Tapu: Anchorage for small vessels with a shallow draught may be obtained off the SE side of Ajad Tapu: local knowledge is required before approaching the anchorage. Anchorage and shelter off Bural Ree: West side: Small vessels may anchor close W of the NW edge of Bural Reef in depths of 7.0m, mud. Care should be taken to avoid shoals extending NW and SW from the NW edge of the reef. East side: There is good shelter in the E and SE sides of Bural Reef from W winds: vessels anchoring off these sides must take care to avoid Bubasir Rock. (22°30.4'N 069°26.4'E) which lies off the E side of the reef. A vessel taking shelter for a single tide may anchor, at the edge of the shoal soundings, with the trees on Chank Tapu bearing 271° distant about 2nm, in depths of 15.0m, mud: or farther SE, E of Bubasir Rock, with the trees bearing 293° distant about 3nm, in depths of 12.0m . At the latter anchorage the outgoing stream sets NW and the in going SE. There are two anchorages are 2.25 and 3nm SE of Chank Tapu in depths of about 6.0 and 8.0m respectively, mud. Shelter: Large local vessels seek shelter in the lee of Chank Tapu during the SW monsoon. Directions: If proceeding to anchor on the E side of Bural Reef, and passing N of it, keep a good lookout for the trees on Nora Tapu and Chank Tapu and give these islands a berth of at least 3nm.

Dangers in the approach: The approach from N leads between Paga Reef (22° 28.0'N 069°13.0'E) and Bural Reef about 1nm E, then passes E of Boria Reef (22° 25.0'N 069°13.0'E) and clear of an named reef, 2.25nm SE. Paga Reef lies in the approaches to Pindara Bay: it has a sand ridge on its SW side which is submerged only at HWS. The reef is covered by the red sector (260°-290°) of Samiani Islands Centre Light (22°29.3'N 069°05.2'E). Bural reef (Chank Reef) (22°30.0'N 069°20.0'E), a large coral reef which is steep-to on its N side, supports several islands including Nora Tapu near the centre of its N part, this island is low and sandy, it is covered with mangroves and trees, the highest of which are at its E end. Bhaidar Tapu, similar to Nora Tapu, lies 4nm SSW: Chank Tapu is a small wooded island near the NE corner of the reef. Two small rocky islets, Khara and Mitha Chusna, lie near the S tip of the reef. A stranded wreck lies close S of the NW point of Bural Reef with the forepart of another wreck 1nm S: The former has been reported to give a good radar response, the mast of the latter is visible. Boria Reef (22°25.0'N 069°13.0'E), which dries, lies at the E edge of the foul ground extending E from Positra Point; a small detached reef lies about 0.7nm N of Boria Reef with a shoal patch 0.4nm WSW of it. Local knowledge is necessary when navigating in this vicinity.

Customs allowances: One bottle of liquor and one carton of cigarettes is allowed for each crew member per week. Immigration: Immigration Officials will check passports/CDC (Seaman's Books) and issue shore permits. Nationals from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China (mainland) will not be issued with landing permits.
