Malpe (INMAL)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The port is a roadstead protected by islands and breakwaters, the coastline is low and sandy. The port is a major fishing harbour and shipyards.

Malpe is situated off the entrance to Udiyavara River on the W coast of India.

Anchorage can be obtained at about 1.5miles WNW of North Island Lighthouse in depths within 5m to 10m. Small vessels may anchor about 0.5miles WNW of the N breakwater light or about 0.6miles of the summit of South Island, both anchorages in depth of 6m with sand and mud.

The entrance channel has a depth of 4.5m LWOST.

The limits of the port are defined by a white stone pillar standing approx 0.25nm SSE of the mouth of the river.

Passage to the port is obstructed by numerous rocks and it is should not be attempted without local knowledge of the channels. The port is closed during the SW'ly monsoon due to heavy swells.

The average minimum and maximum tidal ranges are about 0.3m and 1.1m.

The maximum and minimum temperature at the port is 35°C and 25.6°C, the annual rainfall is about 330.20cm. Prevailing winds: SW'ly and NE'ly monsoon.

There is no coastal radio station in the port. Messages should be sent via Bahrain or Singapore Radio. VHF: Ch 16.

Customs allowances: One bottle of liquor and one carton of cigarettes is allowed for each crew member per week. Immigration: Immigration officials will check passports/CDC (Seaman's Books) and issue shore permits. Nationals from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China (mainland) will not be issued with landing permits.

Local port health officer grants pratique after boarding vessel.

To be tendered as per terms and conditions of Charter Party. Generally, NOR tendered by master on vessel's arrival advising that vessel is ready to load/discharge the nominated cargo.
