Bheemunipatnam (INBHM)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The port consists of an open roadstead anchorage with cargo being worked using small boats. Principal exports are hemp, myrobalans and ground nuts; imports include general merchandise and jute.

Bheemunipatnam is situated on the E coast of India in the Bay of Bengal.

Draught 9.0m.

Anchorage, which is more sheltered than at adjacent ports, may be obtained 1nm offshore in depths of approx 12.0m, sand and mud with good holding ground. During the SW monsoon a vessel should anchor with Bheemunipatnam Lighthouse bearing 264°; during the NE monsoon it should anchor with the lighthouse bearing between 249° and 259°.

The port limits are marked by boundary pillars standing approx 200m S and 1.3nm NNE of Bheemunipatnam Lighthouse.

Bheemunipatnam Light is exhibited from a white masonry tower close to the port office at the NE end of the town.
