Korcula (HRKOR)

The port is entered between a small peninsula on which is situated the town of Korcula, and a headland approximately 0.25nm W. The port mainly handles passenger traffic.

The port of Korcula is situated on an island off the main Croatian coastline.

Draught 3.0m

Vessels may obtain anchorage in position 42°58.2'N 017°08.3'E, providing permission has been given and a pilot is embarked. This anchorage has a diameter of 800m. Minimum depth in the approaches to the anchorage is 29m. Large vessels may anchor off the port in about 40m on either side of the prohibited anchorage area. Vessels may also obtain anchorage in the following areas positioned from Otocic Mulic (42°58'N 017°06'E): Sidriste Viganj: 0.9nm N. Sidriste Kucisce: 1.25nm ENE.

Approach: Minimum depth 29.0m.

BA 1574. Admiralty Pilot NP47, NP286(3).

Compulsory. West pilot station is located in position 42°58.4'N 017°06'E. The East pilot station is in position 42°58'N 017°13'E. Pilot may be contacted on VHF Ch 16.

Restrictions in the approach: Max speed 8kts, Max speed in Peljesac Channel 12kts.

Range 0.3m.

Can be arranged from other ports, 72 hours notice is required.

The port is exposed to N'ly and W'ly winds and provides little shelter during the Bora season. In winter, Uvala Luka, approximately 0.5nm SE is to be preferred. Current: In the vicinity of the port the current is predominantly E going contrary to the general set in Peljeski Canal and can be very strong, making berthing difficult. Current and wind in opposition raise a very high sea off the port.
