π Port Overview
β ISPSβ ECA
The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The port of Kilkeel is a major fishing port and has one of the largest fishing fleets in Northern Ireland. The inner harbour has approx 450m of quays and is connected to the sea by a walled channel. The port is subject to continuous silting and consequently dredging. Outer Harbour: Inside the breakwater on the N side of the entrance, known as Meeney's Point, is Meeney's Dock, which dries and is seldom used. Old Dock, a small basin N of Meeney's Dock has a sandy bottom and a slipway at its head. Inner Harbour: At the NW end of the outer harbour there is an opening, 12m wide, which leads to the inner harbour. It is maintained by dredging to a depth of 1.0m but is subject to silting. Small craft can berth in the inner harbour which offers excellent shelter. Fishing vessels berth, several of deep draught, on the S side of the inner harbour.
