Girvan (GBGIR)

Primarily a fishing port.

North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Girvan is located on the W coast of Scotland.

LOA 50m, draught 3.4m, beam 9m.

Anchorage can be obtained to seaward of Girvan, clear of the entrance channel. This area is unsafe during NW gales.

From a position 0.3nm WNW of the head of North Breakwater the track into the harbour leads 112°, on the alignment of the dredged channel, passing (with positions from the head of North Breakwater): NNE of Girvan Patch (0.5nm SW), then: Between shallow patches, with a depth of 1.5m (75m W), to the SSW and with a depth of 1.9m (75m WNW), to the NNE. These patches lie either side of the entrance to the dredged channel. Then: NNE of the head of South Pier (60m WSW) on which stands a light (metal mast on white tower, 6.0m in height), then: SSW of the head of North Breakwater, on which stands a light (red pole on concrete base, 4.0m in height), then: SSW of the head of North Groyne (75m ESE) on which stands a light (column, 3.0m in height). This groyne extends to the edge of the drying bank which lies parallel to the N edge of the channel.
