Cannes (FRCEQ)

Port of Cannes also known and Old Port, it is primarily a port for leisure craft and yachts (Port Pierre Canto), however commercial facilities also exist such as passengers, Ro-Ro and cruise. The port anchorage is used regularly by ferries and cruise ships.

Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Seasonal Area for ships of 100m or less in length, Winter Dec 16 to Mar 15, Summer Mar 16 to Dec 15.

Cannes is located on the Mediterranean coast of France within the E part of the Golfe de Napoule.

LOA 150m, beam 30m and draught 5.5m.

The designated ferry anchorage, in depths of 10.0-53m, mainly mud and good holding ground, lies 0.5nm S of Port de Cannes Breakwater Head Light. Other anchorages are obtainable 0.2nm S of the head of the W jetty in depths of approx 13m, mud and good holding ground; strong S winds raise a high sea in this vicinity. This anchorage lies in the N part of an area, which is primarily reserved for vessels in transit. During a strong Mistral vessels may obtain anchorage E of the Pointe de la Croisette, N of Ile Sainte-Marguerite.

Directions: The light structure on the extension of Quai Max Laubeuf in line with Le Secant Light structure (white tower, green top) 13m in height bearing 328° clears irregular depths over a rocky bottom which extend 0.5nm SW of Le Four a Chaux. Pass SW of Le Secant Light structure, which marks a rock lying about midway between the jetty heads. A 5.8m patch lies nearly 0.05nm SSW of Le Secant Light structure; there is deeper water between it and the jetty SW. There are depths of 5.6 to 8.0m in the entrance channel. It is not advisable to enter after dark.

Pilotage is not available, however the Harbour Master can arrange for experienced local mariners to assist visiting vessels.

No night movements of vessels carrying dangerous cargoes. Caution should be exercised during the approach to avoid a submerged rock at the entrance. This rock is marked by a green light Fl (3) 12. There is a speed limit of 10kts in a regulated area, between Ile Sainte Marguerite and Cannes Harbour, and of 3kts in the harbour itself. The harbour is usually very crowded and vessels must not enter until allocated a berth.

Range 0.3m.

One 100hp tug is available if required.

Notify ETA upon departure from last port of call, then every 24 hours before arrival with confirmation to vessel's agent 12 hours prior to arrival.

Flags to be displayed: During bunkering "B" flag and on arrival "Q" flag.

Request for pratique to be made to Harbour Control prior to arrival. Renewal of Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificates possible, with prior notice to agent.

NOR should be tendered in accordance with the Charter Party.
