Vatia (FJVAT)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. Vessels discharge fuel oil for the nearby Emperor Goldmine. Vatia Wharf: A "T"-headed wharf, 277m long, constructed of concrete faced with wood, projecting NW from the S side of the passage. Emperor Goldmine Company Berth, 30m long and well fendered, lies at the head of Vatia Wharf. Depth 9.1-9.4m alongside, with a least depth of 9.8m, 9.0m from the wharf face. Vessels discharge fuel oil through a pipeline to the nearby goldmine

Vatia Wharf is situated on the NW coast of Viti Levu, near the W end of the passage between Tavuca Reef and the main island.

The wharf is approached from SW on the alignment (059°) of the 2 nearest beacons on the edge of the reef NE of the wharf.

Vessels secure with long head and stern ropes to dolphins and mooring buoys off each end of the berth, and to concrete blocks set in the shore reef.

Pilotage is not compulsory but recommended, the pilot boards at Navula Passage (17°56.0'S 177°13.0'E).

The wharf is partially exposed to the prevailing NE wind, but the scend is not great.
