π§ Navigation Information
Approaches
San Esteban de Pravia is entered W of Playa de los Quebrantos and E of Punta del Espiritu Santo. The point, surmounted by a prominent hermitage 43Β°33.8'N 006Β°04.8'W standing at an elevation of 109m, is wooded on its steep E slopes. The entrance is sheltered from W by Dique del Oeste, a breakwater extending N from the Point, and from NE by Contradique del Este, a detached breakwater. The entrance channel, approx width 150m between training walls, leads approx 0.7nm S to a position where the estuary widens and Darsena de San Esteban, the basin on the W bank, is entered. Approx 1nm S of the entrance to the basin the estuary narrows and is spanned by a road bridge, which forms the limit of navigation except for small craft.

Compulsory, a qualified pilot is available. Entry is best around 2 hours before HW.
Restrictions

Tidal range and flow
Spring Range 3.4m and Neap range 1.6m. Tidal streams at the entrance to the estuary may attain a rate of 4 to 5kts at springs.
Weather
Prevailing winds: Variable. Winds between SW and NW raise the water level by approx 0.9m, winds between NE and SE lower the water level possibly by a greater amount. In winter the level changes when Rio Nalon is in spate. Small vessels should not attempt entry in heavy seas or during the out going tidal stream if there is a fresh NE wind or a swell from the same direction.
