Ribadeo (ESRIB)

Ribadeo is a small commercial port. Facilities are available for small fishing boats and small general and bulk carriers. Woodpulp is the principal cargo handled by the port.

North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Ribadeo is situated at the mouth of the Rio Eo.

Draught 5.0m.

The port handles approx 507,000t of cargo per year, of which 391,000t is woodpulp.

In fair weather vessels awaiting the tide to enter harbour anchor in Ensenda de Arnao. Vessels less than length 40m anchor on alignment (140°) of Punta Aerojo Leading Lights, 0.2nm from the front light, depth 8.0m, out of the tidal stream. Large vessels anchor approx 0.15nm farther N, depth 10.0m, sand.

First channel from the Bar to Arnao Bay has a depth of 12.8m, the second from Arnao Bay to the mineral chute of San Damian has a depth of 9.1m. Then as far as Mirasol Quay there is a depth of 5.6m.

Compulsory for vessels of more than 50t; arrangements to be made through vessel's agent. Pilots board 0.3nm NE of Isla Panchea Light. Pilot boat is white and displays a pilot flag.

Masonry cross (more than 8.0m in height), illuminated at night, standing on the S side of Ermita de Santa Cruz (43°31'N 007°01'W), a white water tower stands close N. Instituto Laboral (large white college building) (43°32'N 003°0'W). Atalaya de San Roman (square tower 12m in height) (43°32'N 007°01'W). Torres Moreno (43°32'N 007°02'W), the tallest building in Ribadeo, whose domes are covered in red glazed tiles that reflect the sun. Isla Pancha Lighthouse (43°33'N 007°02'W).

Sand banks make entrance difficult. Vessels should not enter until at least 3 hours after the incoming tide has set.

Range 4.5m at HWST, 3.0m at HWNT.

Assistance available for small boats, nearest tugs based at San Ciprian.
