Requejada (ESRQD)

The quay is privately owned by Julio Cabrero and used for their own products.

North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

La Requejada stands on the E bank of the River Saja, approx 3.5nm from the sea, 18km W of Santander.

Outer anchorage: In fair weather, vessels awaiting the pilot can anchor at bottom sand, good holding area, approximately in the position 0.35nm NE. Vessels awaiting suitable conditions to cross the bar can anchor in Punta Ballota anchorage, 1.5nm W.

The channel leads 3.5nm generally S to La Requejada berths, which are situated on the E banks of the river. State of the bar: Breakers form on the bar in the slightest sea. Entry should not be attempted if there is any swell in the approaches, or if the river is in spate, which is indicated by discoloured water for some distance from the entrance. Pilots state that vessels drawing 3 or 4m can cross the bar 3 to 5 hours after LW, respectively. Larger vessels should not attempt entry if the flow is out going. Local knowledge is necessary if the vessels draught is more than 2.0m.

Pilotage is compulsory for vessels of more than 50t. Pilot boarding: Boarding place in fair weather, off the entrance; with heavy seas the pilot boat remains inside the breakers. Alternatively the pilot may be embarked at Santander.
