Palamos (ESPAL)

The port, which covers an area of approx 2.3ha, is protected from the S by Dique de Abrigo which extends approx 700m WSW from a position approx 200m N of the extremity of Punta del Molino, at a height of 5.0m above sea level. The centre of the harbour has a depth of 15.0-20.0m. The main exports are tiles, cork and wine, timber being imported.

Palamos is situated on the Costa Brava, approx 67nm NE of Barcelona. The harbour is one of the deepest in the mediterranean, and allows good manoeuvrability in and out of the port.

LOA 200m, draught 19m.

Anchorage can be obtained in sheltered waters in the bay in depths of 14.0-18.0m. Vessels can anchor N of Dique de Abrigo and secure their sterns to it. Anchorage holding is good, ground sand.

The access channel is parallel to the seawall.

Compulsory. Notify pilot 24 hours prior to arrival on VHF Ch 09 or 12, Tel: +34 72 601000. The pilot boards in the approaches to the breakwaters. The pilot boat is white with the letter "P" in black on the side.

The port limits extend 500m to the S of the seawall.

A light is exhibited from a grey pyramidal tower, 9.0m in height, standing at the head of Dique de Abrigo, Fl G 3s 9m 5M.

The head of Dique de Abrigo should be given a berth of 90m owing to scattered masonry blocks in the vicinity and there is a 7.9m patch close to the N side of Dique de Abrigo 315m inshore from its head.

Range 0.3m.

Tugs are available.

Prevailing winds: Throughout the year there are winds from the N and NW. In the summer, the predominant winds are from the NE, ENE and SW.
