Djen-Djen (DZDJE)

The port handles general cargo and containers, including grain, sugar, mineral fertilisers and timber. It also imports iron ore and exports finished steel products for the nearby Bellara steel complex. Liquid and Ro-Ro facilities available in the port.

Djen-Djen is located on the Mediterranean 360km E of Algiers, 150km from Constantine and approx 10km from Jijel.

LOA 295m, beam 45m, draught 18.2m, 182644DWT.

Approx 9,700,000t of cargo, 53,000TEU and 500 vessels handled annually.

Entrance to the port is between two breakwaters, the West breakwater, length 3,000m and the East breakwater, length 900m, both marked by buoys: Green Buoy: 36°50.3'N 005°54.5'E. Navigation is prohibited between the breakwater end and the green buoy. Yellow Buoy: 36°50.8'N 005°54.5'E. The draught in the entrance channel 19.3m. turning basin draught 18.8m.

Coastguard service is carried out by navy vessels or the Ministry of Defence.

Berthing is available day or night unless wind exceeds 22-27kts.

Compulsory for all vessels, available throughout 24 hours. Requests for pilots should be sent 72 hours in advanced. ETA should be confirmed on VHF Ch 14 or 16, 2 hours before arrival at the anchorage area. Pilot boarding area is at 36° 51.5'N 005°55.5'E.

The port is closed during NW wind exceeding 22-27kts. Vessels in port may be requested to leave and head for the roads. Approaching vessels are advised to remain at sea and contact the Harbour Master on VHF Ch 16 for instructions.

Insignificant.

Tugs should be ordered through agent with at least 24 hours before arrival/departure/shifting. Five tugs are available, 1 x 5,435hp, 1 x 7,207hp, 2 x 2700hp and 1 x 1700hp.

Veterinary Certificates are required for cargoes of livestock, meats and animal feeds. All plant products including vegetables, grains and seed should be covered by appropriate certification.
